13th SMYC Camp
Hi everyone, The 13th Malaysia-Singapore Youth Camp - the event that you have been waiting for is finally here!! Malaysia will be hosting the Camp this year from 8 -15 June and NYC would like to invite you to be a Sing-Mal Camper once again. The Malaysia leg of the camp will give you a more holistic experience, having gone through the 12th Singapore-Malaysia Youth Camp, as you take on the role of a guest and immerse yourself in our neighbour's way of life. Similar to last year, each participant is required to contribute $100.00 to the contingent fund. The fund will be used to cover individual and group expenses for the programme. You are required to attend an induction programme on 5 to 6 April 2008. You will get to bond once again with your camp mates through the scheduled meetings organised by NYC in preparation for the camp. This includes a weekend and/or a weekday evening training session per week in April and May 2008. Full commitment is expected; those who do not attend the contingent meetings regularly will be disqualified. Be prepared to undergo activities which are physically demanding but fun. The Malaysia programme has in the past included various strenuous teambuilding activities that may border on being regimental. Therefore, please ensure that you are medically fit before signing up. Please let me know whether you are interested to attend the camp by 12 Mar 2008, Wednesday. Should you have any queries, please contact me at 6839 9132 or email

*** two cents' worth from zah: jason has very nicely and bravely volunteered to organise this event, so let's give him the help and support that he needs (: my take is, don't worry about the food or the activities of the day - all these can be worked out nearer the date. what's most important is your availability! we want to get as many people down as possible, if not all. so pleaseplease reply with the date of your choice in the tagboard, yeah.
okie, i shan't say more since this is only worth two cents (:
btw jason, code 3, 26 jan08, saturday is the best for me. i can only make it for slots of time for the other days (you can go ahead with those, if that's the majority vote. i'll join you guys after).

Thank EA,, Dare To Think Big...
Thursday, December 20, 2007
First thing come to first, I would like to thanks the
EA for given me chance to attend this wonderful
camp organize by both country that is Singapore
Malaysia Youth Camp (SMYC). This is the most
fun camp I have ever attend and also a great
opportunities not only to represent EA it self
but my own nation too. Before the camp we got lot
of meeting and practice our dance and a cultural
drama for the SMYC performance. We been split i
nto 4 working committees and I am under Sport
where our roles is to prepare a Cheers throughout
the camp, a teambuilding game and prepare a gift
for the Malaysian. I don’t know why the group chooses
me a leader for this small working committees group.
But sure I learn lot of leadership skill but so far in
this SMYC, I believe everybody is a leader and I would l
ike to thanks my group members who help me out too.
The meeting and prepare for the camp is within a month
and the nine days with the Malaysian has come.
This is where the fun part begins and the Malaysian
was shock to see our welcome cheers... (Hahaha)
It is at NACLI (National Community Leadership Institute)
where we had a 5 days 4 night camp while later we go to
Pulau Ubin for OBS (Outward Bound Singapore). The first
day we bring our neighborhood country friend to Vivo City to
shop till to Sentosa to watch Song of the Sea similar to
Musical Fountain. The second day, they went for a home stay
till the fourth day off we went to Pulau Ubin.
Overnight in the jungle to kaya half of Pulau Ubin such as
through the swampy area to open channel. The last day
I can see many of the Singaporean upset because it is
time to say good bye. I have always reminded the Malaysian
that don’t worry Singapore and Malaysia is not far and we can
visit you guys anytime. So right now we keep in touch through
messenger and we are still as close as possible.
Yes, I have met lot of new peoples but most important of all I
have make many great friends. We share our life and we go
through difficult time and fun time together. The first day we
are stranger till now we are as close as brother and sister. We
can keep in touch with them only if you wanna make it happen
and I am gonna make it happen because I am gonna visit them
on the 28 of December to visit my dear Malaysian friend in KL...
I be back on the fourth of January (A week stay in KL) and I will
tell you guy what does our dear friend do there right now,
on the fifth of January in the SMYC meeting. I am going on
the Philippines on the sixth of January for a 2 week stay. I hope
one day not only the Singapore and Malaysian are close but also
making new friends around South East Asia too. We can bring
our dear Malaysian friend and plan a trip to another country. I have
met many friends around South East Asia such as Thailand,
Philippines and India and if I can still contact them I am sure Malaysian
not only contact but plan a trip too. Not to Malaysia or Singapore
but other country to meet more new people. Sorry, if I think too far
or think too big, but it is wonderful if you guy can make it really happen...
Keep In Touch:

Memories!
Wednesday, December 19, 2007
Yup, memories we all had for the whole (gee, how many days is it?) from the 6th to the 14th.
Had the sudden urge to post and entry here, so, here I go!
When we first came together, it was for the team-building games,
I remembered my day there, man, I was so afraid (you can ask wani ;)
Cause everyone there was older, and I thought it would just be a gathering among all those 20+ -ers.
Heh, and I remembered calling Shi May, even though we were like a few steps away from her. Cause we didn't know how she looked like at that time =X. The first friend me and Wani made was Samuel! Heh, and it went on from there, tian hong, jack (we were so impressed by him, heh, he's a teacher!) and the rest. Met the other 17-ers, Qi Han, Ravin and also Vanessa (who vehemently disagreed that I'm 17 ;) We were broken into our groups, and from then on, we all went on to make friends with each other.
Yet, even after that one day, I never did thought that we all will ultimately share a strong bond. To me, it was just like a simple camp, everyone comes grudgingly to the meetings, then after the camp, we will just drift apart. Yet, from the first meeting, we start forming our bonds and our friendships, within our own committees and also among the rest of us.
The NYC building became like a second home to us, as we came in twice a week, and I don't know about you guys, but I did look forward to the meetings, especially when we started practicing the dances. I think SMYC destroyed my dislike for dance, with people like viknesh and safar and hubert! :) Making it way, way fun. Plus, not forgetting, the Sang Nila Crew :) Yup, having our sessions there every wednesday and saturday (oh, and the Toa Payoh HDB Hub too) was indeed great fun.
Then, the day we waited for came, the camp itself, and I think one thing that certainly changed throughout the whole camp was how we all really came together as one. Seriously, throughout my life, I never saw a group of people so united and close like ours, you don't really feel like having. The first day, we certainly made the malaysians feel welcomed, they started talking with us as soon as they settled down. And each of us then played the part of tour guides for our buddies as we brought them around. For most of us, it was tough at first, the language barrier, the differences in th way we act and all, but ultimately, we each found our common ground with our buddy and worked on it well to form that bond.
The next day, was just as exciting as the first, with our cultural trips and all. But this part, I think, is dedicated to those who took part in the homestaying thingy (Like me). I had my own reservations about having them in my house, and I know some of you did too ;) But then, it wasn't that bad. For my group, it was souvenirs galore as well as loads of food to eat. And man, I still remembered how sad I was to leave the Grassroots Club and the rest of the Singapore contingent even though it was only two days into the camp.
When we returned, it was time for us to give back to society, with our visit to MINDS, and I don't have to say much, it was fun, and it was touching for all of us :) Then came the time for our performance, and even though there wasn't really an audience, we performed and pput in all our effort. I guess we got rewarded with the food :)
OBS was, once again, another time for all of us, both contingents to bond together, and it was really effective in sealing those bonds we started between the Singaporeans and the Malaysians as well as within our own contingents.
All in all, we had our tears when we parted, we had our wishes and promises to meet up once again, and we had our reluctance to leave Punggol jetty, but all in all, let us not forget the ties we formed, the bonds we created, the firneds we made and all..
Let us not let the fire die out :)
To the 12th SMYC participants, I miss you guys :')
